If traveling under unaccompanied-minor procedures, he or she will be escorted onto the airplane during pre-boarding. Most U.S. airlines will permit children who have reached their fifth birthday to travel unaccompanied. Kids ages 5 through 11 who are flying alone must usually travel pursuant to special “unaccompanied minor” procedures. On some airlines, these procedures are required for unaccompanied children as old as 14.

Going through security If your kids are flying out of a U.S. airport, you'll get a gate pass during check-in and go with them to the gate. Children traveling alone For safety, we require children age 5 – 14 traveling alone to use our unaccompanied minor service. This service is optional for children age 15 – 17, but if requested, then the fee applies. The unaccompanied minor fee is $150 each way, plus applicable taxes*, in addition to the ticket price.

The child will be escorted onto the aircraft by an Employee before general boarding begins and will be introduced to the Flight Attendant as an Unaccompanied Minor. You must stay in the gate area until the child's flight is in the air—we'll let you know when you can leave the boarding area.

If you would like to fly with SWISS on your own, your parents have to call the Service Centre in advance and book for you. Incidentally, children aged 12 and over are allowed to fly completely on their own too, but of course they are allocated an escort if they require one.
