​​What you nee​d to know: The South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) and the IRS begin accepting Individual Income Tax returns today, January 23, 2023. The filing deadline for both state and federal returns is Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

Individual Income Tax returns are due April 15 of each year. However, if you file and pay electronically, you have until May 1 to submit your return and full payment without penalties or interest. The May 1 deadline does not apply to Federal Income Tax returns or to taxpayers filing paper returns.

South Carolina State Income Taxes for Tax Year 2022 (January 1 - Dec. 31, 2022) can be completed and e-Filed now along with a Federal or IRS Income Tax Return (or you can learn how to only prepare and file a SC state return). Attention: The deadline to e-file South Carolina Tax Returns is April 18, 2023.

Negligence or disregard – 5% of the underpayment or negligently claimed refund, and 50% of the interest due, is added to the tax. If an underpayment is due to fraud (see below), 75% of the portion of the underpayment attributable to fraud, and 50% of the interest due.
