Forty-one jurisdictions have adopted the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE), which is composed entirely of NCBE-created components. In every U.S. jurisdiction except Wisconsin, Oregon, and Washington, all those seeking admission to the bar must pass a bar examination.

Some lawyers may be admitted without taking the bar examination. Each of these alternate routes has specific requirements which must be satisfied. Applicants are encouraged to review these rules carefully. Applicants for admission via an alternate route must still demonstrate good moral character pursuant to ORS 9.220.

Oregon Bar Exam Scoring/Grading In order to become a member of the Oregon Bar, candidates are required to achieve a minimum scaled score of 270 out of 400 on the UBE. The UBE consists of three sections, each with a different weightage: MBE (50%), MEE (30%), and MPT (20%).

The Reciprocity Admission procedure in Oregon is based on bar reciprocity. A “qualifying jurisdiction” means any other United States jurisdiction that allows Oregon attorneys to become regular members of the Bar in that jurisdiction without taking the bar exam.
