A bail bond serves as a form of payment facilitated by a bail bondsman or agent on behalf of the defendant. In exchange for a fee, the bondsman acts as a surety, promising to pay the full bond amount if the defendant fails to appear in court.

Upon appearing in court as scheduled, and as stated in the bail bond agreement, you get your money back. As an example, if the court sets bail at $15,000, this means you can pay $15,000 to the court in order to be released from jail. Once you return to court on your specified date, you're able to get your money back.

How does bail bonds work in Oklahoma? An Oklahoma bailbond agent will post the bail bond once the 10 percent premium is paid The bail bondsman guarantees the full amount of bail to the county if you, the defendant, does not appear in at any court hearing or trial.

All criminal bonds must be posted in the form of cash. Cash bonds should be tendered to the cashier located in the district court clerk's office. All bail bonds will be receipted by the cashier in the name of the person identified as the owner of the cash at the time bond is posted.

As long as you return to court for your scheduled appearances, you will receive the bail amount back.

If the court does not have a preset bond schedule, you may need to wait in custody for a hearing, generally the next weekday. At the hearing, a judge sets the bail amount. In doing so, the court may consider the severity of the alleged crime in conjunction with your prior criminal history.

Surety Bond A bondsman will charge a nonrefundable fee, called a premium, for posting the bond. The premium, usually 10% of the bail amount, is how a bond agent earns a profit. For example, if bail is set at $15,000, a bondsman would charge $1,500 in exchange for posting the entire $15,000 bail bond.
