Certification for WaterSense Labeled Homes WaterSense-labeled homes are verified and certified to meet EPA's Mandatory Checklist and achieve EPA's water efficiency criteria that the home will use at least 30 percent less water than a typical home anywhere in the country.

Faucet Flows WaterSense labeled bathroom sink faucets and accessories that use a maximum of 1.5 gallons per minute can reduce a sink's water flow by 30 percent or more from the standard flow of 2.2 gallons per minute without sacrificing performance.

The required WaterSense verification is a simple process that can be done in a single visit, often in as little as one to two hours. For a home to earn the WaterSense label, it must be verified by a trained and approved WaterSense home verifier and certified by an EPA approved HCO.

In February 2021, EPA released the WaterSense Specification for Homes, Version 2.0. The specification ensures that WaterSense labeled homes are at least 30 percent more water-efficient than a comparable home using typical new construction and also meet homeowner expectations for performance.

The WaterSense label makes it simple to find water-efficient products, new homes, and programs that meet EPA's criteria for efficiency and performance. WaterSense-labeled products and services are certified to use at least 20 percent less water, save energy, and perform as well as or better than regular models.

WaterSense labeled homes are independently certified to include WaterSense labeled plumbing products (e.g., toilets, showerheads, lavatory faucets), be free of wasteful water leaks, and incorporate features to make it at least 30 percent more water-efficient than typical new construction.

About the Program WaterSense develops specifications for water-efficient products, homes, and programs that meet criteria for efficiency and performance. WaterSense-labeled products and services are certified to use at least 20% less water, save energy, and perform as well as or better than regular models.

WaterSense does not have a specification that applies to kitchen faucets. Instead, builders should look for models certified to the national standard for faucets, ASME A112. 18.1/CSA B125.
