Orthopedics, also known as orthopedic surgery, is a branch of medicine that focuses on the care of the skeletal system and its interconnecting parts. These parts include the following: bones. muscles.

We see people who are having problems with their feet and we provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and conditions affecting the foot and lower limb. We provide a range of foot health-related services including: Screening and treatment of at-risk patients.

Are They Doctors? Podiatrists are doctors, but they don't go to traditional medical school. They have their own schools and professional associations. They also have "DPM" (doctor of podiatric medicine) after their names instead of "MD" (medical doctor).

Both of them take care of feet, treating problems like nail problems and calluses, and some of them can do foot-related surgeries, too. The main difference is the name. In many circumstances, “podiatrist” is now the more common term, but both do similar work.

The letters FACFAS mean that a podiatric surgeon is a Fellow in the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) is a professional organization associated with an interest, training, board certification, and education in the specialty of foot and ankle surgery.

Unlike podiatrists that only treat the foot and ankle, an orthopedic doctor also treats other body parts such as the knees, hips, and spine. If podiatrists are foot and ankle doctors, orthopedists are bone and joint specialists. Orthopedists can treat various musculoskeletal issues.

Look for the FACFAS or AACFAS credentials after your foot and ankle surgeons name—only Board-Certified Fellows of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons are distinguished with the credentials of FACFAS. Associate members are board-qualified with AACFAS credentials.

Individuals who are Board Qualified are not members of ABFAS but are “in progress.” Board Certified status indicates that the podiatric surgeon has passed the Part II examination(s), holds hospital privileges, and has an active license. Individuals with Board Certified status are members of ABFAS.

What do FACFAS and AACFAS stand for? The designation of FACFAS indicates that the physician is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and has been certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, an independent, non-profit certifying agency.
