Tuberculosis is also addressed in specific OSHA regulations for recording and reporting occupational injuries and illnesses in general industry.

Key points. Tuberculosis (TB) screening programs for health care personnel are part of TB infection control plans. CDC recommends all U.S. health care personnel should be screened for TB upon hire. Annual TB testing is not recommended unless there is a known exposure or ongoing transmission.

CalOSHA Annual TB testing of Health Care Personnel Code (A) TB tests and other forms of TB assessment shall be provided at least annually, and more frequently if applicable public health guidelines or the local health officer recommends more frequent testing.

Currently, OSHA enforcement of tuberculosis prevention is based in part on the authority of the general-duty clause (Occupational Exposure to Tuberculosis, 1997).

CDC recommends testing people who are at increased risk for TB infection. People with symptoms of TB disease or positive TB blood test or TB skin results should be evaluated for TB disease. TB testing activities should be accompanied by a plan for medical evaluation and treatment.

Baseline TB screening includes ALL three components: Assessing for current symptoms of active TB disease. Assessing the individual's TB risk factors and TB history. Testing for the presence of infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis by administering either a single TB blood test (IGRA) or a two-step TST.

(A) TB tests and other forms of TB assessment shall be provided at least annually, and more frequently if applicable public health guidelines or the local health officer recommends more frequent testing.

Perform annual screening for symptoms of TB disease. Annually reevaluate the risk and benefits of treatment for latent TB infection. Ensure health care personnel know the symptoms of TB disease that should prompt an immediate evaluation between screening.
