The biggest change to VA disability benefits in 2024 is the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) of 3.2%.

The VA disability rates 2025 are set based on the Social Security Administration's (SSA) estimated 2.6% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase for 2025. These new VA compensation rates will kick-in on December 1, 2024, and you'll see them reflected in your payments starting January 1, 2025.

After two years of record cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) surges, disabled veterans and military retirees will see an additional 3.2% increase in 2024 in their monthly compensation benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Accelerating health care eligibility for veterans: As of March 2024, VA opened up eligibility for toxic exposed veterans to enroll in VA Health Care without first having to prove a service-connected disability and regardless of their deployment location, nearly ten years earlier than called for in the PACT Act.

Under that phaseout, veterans whose gross household income was $170,000 or higher in calendar year 2023 and who would have received the average annual payment would no longer receive any disability compensation from VA in calendar year 2024.

Is the VA Going to Cut Veteran Disability Benefits? No. The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will not cut disability benefits for those veterans who qualify.

Appears In However, after a Veteran passes away, family members should report the death of the Veteran to VA as soon as possible to stop current benefits payments. If the death is not reported promptly, survivors or executors of the Veteran's estate may have to repay any overpayments received.

Beginning in January 2024, veterans whose income was $170,000 or higher in 2023 would no longer receive disability compensation, and those whose household incomes were between $125,000 and $170,000 would receive adjusted payments.
