Some states may also let businesses use an electronic version or insurance ID cards to prove they have insurance. It's a good idea to make sure you know what's acceptable in your state.

As such, you only have the power to obtain a COI from your agent or broker and submit it. You are not authorized to create or certify one. You can't even sign it. Your insurance agent should be the only person who supplies your COI.

A certificate of insurance (COI) form provides proof of insurance coverage. To acquire a COI, you must first buy a small business liability insurance policy. After the policy has been issued, most certificates of insurance are available online.
