The Learning Agreement serves to structure and guide interns' experiences, reflections, and professional development. It is a living document and should be revisited, refined, and adjusted throughout the internship to adapt to the needs of both the intern and the organization.

A well-written learning objective provides a basis for planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating an educational activity. Clearly stated learning objectives have four characteristics: audience, behavior, condition, and degree (ABCD) as described below (Anderson and Krathwohl 2001; Mager 1975):

• It serves as a guide and reminder to the student, work supervisor and faculty supervisor of the academic purpose and. activities of the internship, regarding both the learning and skills fostered by the work experience. • It provides the basis for evaluation and validation of the learning gained from the experience.

A contract is an agreement between parties, creating mutual obligations that are enforceable by law. The basic elements required for the agreement to be a legally enforceable contract are: mutual assent, expressed by a valid offer and acceptance; adequate consideration; capacity; and legality.

A learning contract is basically a short agreement in writing between a trainee and supervisor. It outlines what is expected to be learned in a specific period and the method of assessment of that learning. Although it is a formal written agreement it need not be complex.

Kolb's experiential learning cycle concept divides the learning process into a cycle of four basic theoretical components: concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation.

These can come in two varieties. Some may be more vague (for example, 'Gain an understanding of life under communism'), while others are very specific (for example, 'Read chapters 2-4 in textbook by Monday's class'). This all depends on the student, teacher, and the reasoning behind the learning contract.

It is a legal framework for the agreement between the parties, which is both certain and enforceable. However, to be legally binding, a contract must include four key elements: an offer, acceptance, consideration, and an intention to create legal relations.

Most companies create an employment agreement that sets out a number of key issues: Name of Intern. Title or Role. Brief Description of Duties. Department Intern Will be Working In. Name of Supervisor with Title (contact information is preferable) Office Location. Internship Location. Amount and Frequency of Compensation.

Learning contracts, no matter what kind, have at least four elements, four sections; learning objectives, learning resource, the final product – evidence that the objectives have been met and assessment criteria.
