Political organizations and certain exempt organizations file Form 1120-POL to report their political organization taxable income and income tax liability under section 527. A political organization, whether or not it is tax exempt, must file Form 1120-POL if it has any political organization taxable income.

To obtain an exemption from Massachusetts sales taxes, you must apply for a Certificate of Exemption (Form ST-2) from the Department of Revenue. You must apply on online through MassTaxConnect.

Once your corporation has its IRS 501(c)(3) exemption, it is eligible for an exemption from Massachusetts state income taxes. To qualify, you must register your nonprofit online with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.

Procedure. In order for a purchase to be exempt from Massachusetts tax, an authorized federal employee must present to the vendor the GSA card with appropriate identification at the time of purchase. A Certificate of Exemption (Form ST-2) and a Sales Tax Exempt Purchaser Certificate (Form ST-5) are not required.

The Form 990-EZ is designed for use by small tax-exempt organizations and nonexempt charitable trusts.

A "tax-exempt" entity is a corporation, unincorporated association, or trust that has applied for and received a determination letter from the Franchise Tax Board stating it is exempt from California franchise and income tax (California Revenue and Taxation Code Section 23701).

To claim exempt, write EXEMPT under line 4c. You may claim EXEMPT from withholding if: o Last year you had a right to a full refund of All federal tax income and o This year you expect a full refund of ALL federal income tax. NOTE: if you claim EXEMPT you must complete a new W-4 annually in February.
