LoR Submission and Access Through ERAS LoR authors must register through ERAS on the Letter of Recommendation Portal, and use a letter ID that you provide on the original Letter Request Form. They may also submit their letters to your school's designated dean's office for submission directly to the ERAS PostOffice.

When asking for a letter of recommendation, it's a good idea to schedule a short meeting with the writer so you can ask them in person. During the meeting, be sure to tell them how much you have enjoyed their specialty and why you want to apply to your chosen residency program.

Faculty Guide; Medical Student and Resident Letters of Reference (LOR)

A Letter of Recommendation (LoR) is a letter you request recommending you to the programs of your choice. You will need several letters of recommendation for your application. You may save as many letters as you like in ERAS, but each program requests a specific number - usually 3 or 4.

Once uploaded, ERAS takes up to 5 days to process a LOR.

Keep the attending updated on your progress and achievements so when it comes time to write your letter she won't have to play catch up, which will make the letter more sincere. Assuming you are applying for residency in September, you should request letters by May or June, if possible.

The Letter of Recommendation Portal (LoRP) enables LoR Authors and/or their designees to upload letters of recommendation (LoRs) to ERAS for distribution to training programs, at the request of applicants.
