For schools with drop deadlines, there are usually penalties for dropping a class after the deadline. Depending on your school, these may include a "W" (withdrawal) notation on transcripts, which can affect your academic records.

All drops are final. From the first official day of class through the last day to drop, students cannot drop his or her last class. This must be done by the student's academic advisor. As a result, the deadline for drops is 4:00 pm on the last drop date.

Course Drop Definition and Penalty Once a student has six (6) withdrawals that do not qualify for an exception the student may not be permitted to drop future courses, and the student will receive the grade earned in the course.

If you are a first-time student of Fall 2007 or later, you may not drop more than 6 courses, including those taken at another college or university ing to the Texas Education Code, Section 51.907.

Note: The maximum enrollment for any student in good academic standing is 19 credit hours for Fall and Spring.

A withdrawal from a class (W) is GPA-neutral: instead of a grade, you receive a W notation on your transcript which does not affect your GPA; you also don't earn credits for the course.

Students may add courses, swap courses, drop courses and withdraw from all courses prior to the first class day of the session. In all of these cases, no charges will be incurred and no transactions will be recorded on the student's transcript.

A withdrawal from a class (W) is GPA-neutral: instead of a grade, you receive a W notation on your transcript which does not affect your GPA; you also don't earn credits for the course.

Limitation on Dropped Courses Students dropping a course for academic reasons will receive a "W" Students withdrawing from the university or who received an approved non-academic exception will receive a course notation of Q on the transcript. Courses denoted with Q do not count toward the 6-course drop limit.

For the purposes of the six drop rule, a complete withdrawal means that you drop all your classes for the term on the same date. What happens when I enroll at more than one Texas public college or university? If you are an affected student and have affected drops, all will count in the six-drop limit.
