In Texas, the "6 Drop Rule" prohibits dropping more than six classes after the "Census Date".

In ance with section 51.907 of the Texas Education Code, a student may drop no more than six classes for academic reasons during his or her undergraduate career.

A student must submit the completed OTE form to the student's dean's office by the last class day. Any drop or withdrawal allowed under the OTE will be subject to the same academic and financial aid rules governing other drops or withdrawals taken during the semester.

Every undergraduate is allowed one and only one OTE. The OTE is only available through the last class day of the semester. The OTE may be used to drop a single course or withdraw from all courses in that semester. The OTE drop counts as one of your six Q-Drops.

Q-dropping is a pattern on your transcript. Two Q-drops can signal a possible pattern; three Q- drops create a definite pattern.

Effective with the Fall 2007 semester and thereafter, all undergraduate students enrolling for the first time in a Texas public college or university are not permitted to drop more than six courses throughout their undergraduate career.

A One-Time Exception is a Q-drop or withdrawal after the regular deadline. Every undergraduate is allowed one OTE, whether it is used to withdraw from all classes or drop one class. An OTE drop counts as one of your six Q-drops. Once you've used it, you cannot use it again.
