What happens if I repeat a course more than once? Regardless of the grade, a notation of “Unapproved Repeat” will show on your transcript if you repeat the same class more than once and you will not receive units or grade points.

The most recent grade will be calculated into your GPA. All other grades (for the repeated course) will be noted on your transcript and marked with an “E,” indicating “repeated course.” The original course will not count toward GPA hours nor toward earned hours.

All grades are recorded on your transcript. Repeated courses do not “replace” your grade on your transcript. All grades are recorded on your transcript, however, the most recent grade will be calculated into your GPA.

Most programs will include all attempts for the same course in their calculation of your GPA. Consider taking an upper level class in the same subject instead of retaking a class. Doing so can improve your GPA and also provide an opportunity to show mastery of the subject at a higher level.

How does a repeat look on my transcript? Two notations will be listed on your transcript for the re- peated course: “Repeated: Excluded from GPA” for the first attempt; “Repeat of Course Previously Taken” for the second attempt.

Student grading option: S: Satisfactory (actual grade A through D-); not counted in cumulative average; not awarded by instructors; placed on grade report by registrar. F: Fail (actual grade E)

Retaking the classes online and earning a higher grade will look better than a C on your transcript. Taking extra classes, so long as you can handle the increased rigor, will also help your application by boosting your weighted and unweighted GPA.
