A High Court and a Supreme Court Judge retire at the age of 62 and 65 years respectively. The 15th Constitutional Amendment enabled the increase of the retirement age of the High Court Judges from 60 to 62 years. This change was done as per Section 4 of the Constitution (Fifteenth Amendment) Act, 1963.

Senior Judges Regardless of age, judges must serve at least 10 years to qualify for senior status. Upon taking senior status, judges may choose to handle a reduced caseload. Senior judges handle about 20 percent of the total district and appellate caseload.

(3) Judges seeking senior status must apply for such status immediately upon retirement. Thereafter, requests for senior status shall be granted only upon application to and approval by the Supreme Court, which approval will be granted only upon a showing of compelling and exceptional circumstances.

What are senior judges? The Pennsylvania Constitution requires that judges must retire at age 75, but retired judges may, with the approval of the state court administrator, continue to serve the Commonwealth as senior judges.

(b) Justices, judges and justices of the peace shall be retired on the last day of the calendar year in which they attain the age of 75 years.

(1) The annual salary of a justice of the Supreme Court shall be $253,361. (2) The annual salary of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court shall be $260,734. (b) Superior Court. (1) The annual salary of a judge of the Superior Court shall be $239,059.
