The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) and Hazardous Material Regulations (HMRs) set forth minimum safety standards for motor carriers and drivers.

Part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) develops and enforces safety regulations to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses.

Beginning November 18, 2024, as part of new Federal regulations, drivers with a “prohibited” status in FMCSA's Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse will lose or be denied their State-issued commercial driving privileges.

No driver may use a hand-held mobile telephone or engage in texting while driving a CMV, ing to 49 CFR 392, Subpart H. The only occasion where either is permissible is when drivers are communicating with law enforcement officials or other emergency services.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) are a set of rules intended to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities caused by commercial motor vehicles. These federal trucking regulations set the minimum standards for the operation of commercial carriers in interstate commerce.
