New Jersey residents who rank in the top 15.0% of their class at the end of either the junior or senior year of high school may be eligible to receive an NJ STARS award for attendance at their home county college.

Students may receive the scholarship for up to five semesters, including summer sessions. However, NJ STARS resources are not available to cover any summer payments.

Established in 2004, New Jersey Student Tuition Assistance Reward Scholarship Program (NJ STARS) is a state scholarship that covers up to five semesters of tuition* at your local community college.

Must demonstrate an educationally and economically disadvantaged background. Must be a New Jersey resident 12 consecutive months prior to receiving the award. Must apply and be accepted to a participating New Jersey college or university. Must meet the academic criteria as set by the institution of choice.

NJ STARS students must have graduated from a NJ county college with an associate degree and a GPA of 3.25 or higher. Family income (including taxable and untaxed income) must be less than $250,000. Students must be admitted to a New Jersey four-year institution that participates in the Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) Program.

NJ STARS II will provide a $2,500 annual scholarship for NJ STARS students who earn their associate degrees at their community colleges with grade point averages of 3.25 or better and successfully transfer to any public or private New Jersey four-year college or university to earn their baccalaureate degrees.
