No Significant Form 1040-SR changes from 2022 to 2023 Like Form 1040, the 2023 Form 1040-SR is quite similar to the 2020 version. The main change is the update to the standard deduction table amounts. Otherwise, the line items on Form 1040-SR mimic the line items on Form 1040.

Form 1040-SR is available as an optional alternative to using Form 1040 for taxpayers who are age 65 or older. Form 1040-SR uses the same schedules and instructions as Form 1040 does.

IRS extra standard deduction for older adults For 2023, the additional standard deduction is $1,850 if you are single or file as head of household. If you're married, filing jointly or separately, the extra standard deduction amount is $1,500 per qualifying individual.

When you turn 65, the IRS offers you a tax benefit in the form of an extra standard deduction for people age 65 and older. For example, a single 64-year-old taxpayer can claim a standard deduction of $13,850 on their 2023 tax return. But a single 65-year-old taxpayer will get a $15,700 standard deduction in 2023.

For 2023, the additional standard deduction amounts for taxpayers who are 65 and older or blind are: $1,850 for Single or Head of Household (increase of $100) $1,500 for married taxpayers or Qualifying Surviving Spouse (increase of $100)
