If you or any eligible dependents are currently enrolled in Oregon Health Plan/Medicaid, Medicare, or a substantially equivalent medical health insurance plan, STOP. You are not eligible for OMIP. Examples of plans that are not substantially equivalent are: specified disease or illness-only; long-term or short-term disability; mandatory student health; hospital-only or confinement policy; or an accident-only policy. Medical eligibles: OMIP will not pay benefits during the first six months of en.

While UnitedHealthcare standard eligibility rules will cover the dependent until the end of the calendar month that they attain the age of 26, Plan sponsors may be free to elect other eligibility rules, IF AVAILABLE TO THEM.

Usually, the loss of dependent child status is based on the child reaching a specific age. Generally, after reaching this age the child is no longer entitled to the plan coverage that the child had while considered to be a dependent.

The Affordable Care Act requires plans and issuers that offer dependent child coverage to make the coverage available until a child reaches the age of 26. Both married and unmarried children qualify for this coverage.

Dependent coverage refers to health insurance protection extended to the dependents of the policyholder, including the spouse, children below 26 years old, and other dependents allowed by law.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act permits married or unmarried dependent children to be covered under the health plans to the age of 26. An unmarried dependent child may be covered for health beyond age 26 to age 30, if the criteria established by Florida Statute are satisfied (see following Q & A).

Dependents are either a qualifying child or a qualifying relative of the taxpayer. The taxpayer's spouse cannot be claimed as a dependent. Some examples of dependents include a child, stepchild, brother, sister, or parent.
