Falciparum FAQ
-
The size, number of chromosomes, and nature of genomic DNA varies between different organisms (see table Sizes and molecular weights of various genomic DNAs). Viral DNA genomes are relatively small and can be single- or double-stranded, linear, or circular. All other organisms have double-stranded DNA genomes.
-
Concentration and Purity Determination An absorbance quotient value of 1.8 < ratio (R) < 2.0 was considered to be good, purified DNA. A ratio of <1.8 is indicative of protein contamination, where as a ratio of >2.0 indicates RNA contamination.
-
Genomic DNA and plasmid DNA are two sorts of DNA present in living entities. They are double-stranded structures containing deoxyribonucleotides. Genomic DNA is chromosomal DNA, whereas plasmid DNA is extrachromosomal.
-
The genome of an organism (encoded by the genomic DNA) is the (biological) information of heredity which is passed from one generation of organism to the next. That genome is transcribed to produce various RNAs, which are necessary for the function of the organism.
-
There are several ways to search and retrieve data from GenBank. Search GenBank for sequence identifiers and annotations with Entrez Nucleotide. Search and align GenBank sequences to a query sequence using BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool). See BLAST info for more information about the numerous BLAST databases.
-
Genomic DNA extraction is the process of releasing chromosomal DNA from the cellular matrix in which it is contained. Genomic DNA extraction requires a robust disruption method to open the nuclei and cell walls (if applicable); it usually involves adding a compatible detergent as well as mechanical shearing.
-
A cell 's DNA, packaged as a double-stranded DNA molecule, is called its genome. In prokaryotes, the genome is composed of a single, double-stranded DNA molecule in the form of a loop or circle; the region in the cell containing this genetic material is called a nucleoid.
-
Most bacteria have a haploid genome, a single chromosome consisting of a circular, double stranded DNA molecule.
