The state adopted a law this year that lets counties give that property tax assessment freeze when homeowners become eligible for Social Security. And it allowed counties to throw in a yearly tax credit to give older residents even more tax relief.

The Individual Income Tax Return (Form MO-1040) is Missouri's long form. It is a universal form that can be used by any individual taxpayer. If you do not have any of the special filing situations described below and you choose to file a paper tax return, try filing a short form (Form MO-1040A).

If you are receiving a benefit from a public pension system (such as MOSERS), and file a Missouri state tax return, you may qualify for the Missouri public pension exemption. If you qualify, you may be exempt from paying some or all Missouri state income tax on income you receive from MOSERS.

65 years of age or older, or. a person 18-64 who receives SSI, SSD, or Veterans Disability, or. 60 and older and receiving Surviving Spouse benefits from SSA.
