Here are the changes the IRS introduced in its 2023 W-4 Form: The references to the tax withholding estimator were removed. Step 2(c) now includes an explanation to clarify who should check the box for two jobs. The Deductions Worksheet amounts were updated for 2023.

Employees who have furnished Form W-4 in any year before 2020 are not required to furnish a new form merely because of the redesign. Employers will continue to compute withholding based on the information from the employee's most recently furnished Form W-4.

Let's look at these important points about the new Form W-4. One difference from prior forms is the expected filing status. The new form changes single to single or married filing separately and includes head of household. The new form doesn't have married but withhold at higher single rate is gone.
