Wenatchee is in Chelan County; East Wenatchee is in Douglas County. The site of East Wenatchee was dry and sandy until 1908 when the new Columbia River Bridge connected it to Wenatchee, bringing both irrigation water and easy access. Within a few years, the site of East Wenatchee bloomed with apple orchards.

The city of Wenatchee shares its name with the Wenatchee River, Lake Wenatchee and the Wenatchee National Forest. Wenatchee is referred to as the "Apple Capital of the World" due to the valley's many orchards.

The Wenatchee World is a locally owned family news organization that has been owned by the Woods family since the early 1900s. We are passionate about serving our community and reporting on issues that are of most importance to our local audience.

The Wenatchee Daily World was founded in 1905 by C.A. Briggs and Nat Ament, as a Republican paper. The paper was the town's first daily newspaper and initially consisted of four pages. In 1907, Briggs and Ament sold the ailing paper after threats were made on their lives over their anti-saloon stances.
