What Is Military Toxic Exposure? Chemical weapons agents. Asbestos. Silica Dust. Nuclear radiation. Environmental hazards in the water, air, or soil.

Fort McClellan, originally Camp McClellan, is a decommissioned United States Army post located adjacent to the city of Anniston, Alabama. During World War II, it was one of the largest U.S. Army installations, training an estimated half-million troops.

What exactly were the toxic exposures at Fort McClellan? Veterans who served at Fort McClellan were potentially exposed to a variety of toxic chemicals, including Agent Orange and other substances used in chemical warfare training.

It's a quick 5-10 minute screening to identify any potential exposures to toxins during your military service. Depending on your response, you may be connected to support and resources, including a review by your primary care team. Potential exposures could include: Open Burn Pits/Airborne Hazards.

Why was Fort McClellan closed? In 1999, Fort McClellan was closed as part of the Army Base Closure and Realignment Committee (BRAC) program. The BRAC program is part of a government effort to increase Department of Defense (DoD) efficiency by realigning or closing some U.S. military bases.

Many tons of Agent Orange and other highly volatile substances like uranium and nerve gas were stored at Fort McClellan before being used extensively in the Vietnam War to wipe out vegetation and foliage, exposing thousands of service members and civilians to the chemical and causing lasting damage.

Fort McClellan abuts the city of Anniston, Alabama and lies within Calhoun County. In 1917, Congress authorized the establishment of Fort McClellan and the base was formally established in 1929.

Yes. The PACT Act adds new presumptive conditions. But there are also many other health conditions that we presume are caused by exposure to toxic (or hazardous) materials. If you have any of these other conditions, you may be eligible for health care or benefits.
