Grants Overview The Rotary Foundation offers Rotarians two grant types: District and Global.

District Grants (DG) are grants managed by the district with funding received from The Rotary Foundation based on a portion of the Annual Programs (SHARE) Fund giving from three years prior.

The Rotary Foundation offers grants that support a wide variety of projects, scholarships, and training that Rotary members are doing around the world.

In 1929, the Foundation made its first gift of $500 to the International Society for Crippled Children. The organization, created by Rotarian Edgar F. “Daddy” Allen, later grew into Easter Seals.

The Rotary Foundation is organized as a public charity operated exclusively for charitable purposes and governed by a Board of Trustees. The operations of Rotary International, a member organization, are overseen by its Board of Directors.

Organizations and individuals wishing to apply for a grant should first identify the type of grant they are interested in and then research the requirements for that particular type of grant. There are many resources available to help with this process, including books, websites, and grant-writing workshops.

Polio eradication is Rotary's top philanthropic priority. Rotary launched the PolioPlus programme in 1985. In 1988, when Rotary began working with its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, there were more than 350,000 polio cases in over 125 countries.
