In addition to stopping all work on camera and behind the scenes, actors are prohibited from promoting projects they've already filmed, in the form of interviews, premieres, fan expos, press junkets, festivals, and podcast appearances, among other types of publicity.

Prior to auditions, prior to casting, prior to production, to use a SAG-AFTRA member in a commercial, there must be a SAG-AFTRA signatory attached to the project. The signatory could be an advertising agency or an advertiser.

SAG/AFTRA members are never allowed to work on Non-Union projects. While this strike is not applicable to the non-union projects, SAG/AFTRA members are always prohibited from seeking employment on those sets. However, there are still non-union television, films and commercials that are currently filming.

A signatory to the Commercial Contract is usually either the advertiser, such as Proctor & Gamble, or the advertising agency such as Publicis or McCann-Erickson, who is producing the commercial. The SAG-AFTRA signatory will be identified in both your employment contract and your session paystub.

They can still do commercials, live entertainment and podcasts. In addition to screen actors, SAG-AFTRA's 160,000 members are made up of broadcast journalists, announcers, hosts and stunt performers, but only the actors' contracts are in question.

For additional cycles, up to the maximum period of use (MPU) — typically either a year or 21 months — additional holding fees are due for each cycle.
