How do I obtain a CO/CC? Once your final inspection has been approved and the applicable completion holds satisfied, you may apply, print or view certificates online at Certificate of Occupancy/Completion. Check applicable inspections and completion holds using your Permit Card and/or the Building permit records menu.

In order to receive a CO, the following must exist for the job: All final inspections have been completed with a "pass" disposition, including fire if applicable. All trade sub-permits, as well as other affiliated permits on the job, must be finaled.

All contractors must apply for permits through the City's Self-Service portal at .CapeCoral.gov/energov. Permits applied for in-person (owner-builder permits only) and online will be processed in the order they were received. Permits will not be immediately issued at the Permitting Counter.

A Certificate of Occupancy (CO) is issued for new construction or change of use (i.e. from a school to a restaurant), while a Certificate of Completion (CC) is needed for remodels, renovations and shell buildings.

If you want to gain early occupancy on a building project that is still under construction you can apply for a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) in order to occupy the building before completing construction and obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) issued for new construction or change of use.

1. It shall be unlawful for the owner or any other person to occupy the building or portions of the building unless a certificate of occupancy is obtained.

Certification Process If no fees are due and all other components have been verified, a CO will usually be issued within a couple of business days from the passing of the building final inspection.

The building official will issue you a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) after the building or structure has received a final inspection and no violations are found to the provisions of the building codes, life safety and applicable laws.
