A key provision of the envisioned program is the funding of tax credits that would be used to cut property taxes in half for many homeowners ages 65 and older, up to a maximum of $6,500 annually. Right now, senior homeowners making up to $500,000 annually would be eligible for the promised benefits.

Specifically, the law (A1) will put an annual 50% credit directly on senior homeowners' property tax bills for their primary residences, initially capped at $6,500 — though it would be indexed, meaning it would go up if property taxes rise.

The PTR-1 is the application used by first-time applicants or for those who must re-establish themselves back into the Senior Freeze program. This form establishes your base year property tax amount, which is used to calculate the reimbursement going forward.

Payments will be issued on a rolling basis. Most applicants can expect to receive their payment approximately 90 days after filing the application, unless we request additional information to process your claim.

You (or your spouse/civil union partner) were: 65 or older as of December 31, 2021; or. Actually receiving federal Social Security disability benefit payments (not benefit payments received on behalf of someone else) on or before December 31, 2021, and on or before December 31, 2022.
