Electrocardiographic monitoring should be used in all patients undergoing deep sedation. It should also be used during moderate sedation in patients with significant cardiovascular disease or those who are undergoing procedures where dysrhythmias are anticipated.

Criteria for discharge Cardiovascular function is satisfactory and stable. Protective reflexes are intact. Airway patency is satisfactory and stable. Patient can talk (return to presedation level).

Basic Requirements for Monitoring Sedated Patients: Blood Pressure, Pulse Oximetry, and EKG.

Capnography is a respiratory monitoring device that has become an accepted standard of care for PSA in many circumstances. For example, the American Society of Anesthesiology standards for Basic Anesthetic Monitoring require the use of capnography for both moderate and deep sedation.
