The forgiveness is not automatic; businesses still must apply for it. If you took out a PPP loan and haven't yet applied for forgiveness, we'll cover the criteria and the process below. If you never received a PPP loan and are wondering if there will be another PPP loan for 2023, it seems very unlikely.

If you contact your lender, you may be able to set up a repayment strategy. On the other hand, if you don't try to make an effort to repay, the SBA will likely seize any collateral you used to secure the loan — and if necessary, the government can take legal action against you.

The SBA generally doesn't offer 100 percent forgiveness on 7(a) and 504 loans, no matter how dire your finances are. However, for companies that have had to cease operations, the SBA will consider settlements that have been agreed to between a borrower and their loan issuer.

The SBA has a public database available on their website where you can find records of the PPP loan.

Yes, the SBA can seize money from your bank accounts if you default on a loan. They can't just take money for no reason though. There's a process they gotta go through first. But at the end of the day, your bank accounts aren't totally safe if you owe the SBA money.
