To be a resident for tuition purposes, undergraduate students generally must either have parent(s) who are considered California residents or must have been completely financially independent for two years.

In order to be considered an in-state resident, you must have lived in California for at least one year prior to your college program's start date. This means you must be able to prove you have been a physical resident of California for at least 366 days.

You must be physically present in California for more than one year (366 days) immediately prior to the residence determination date of the term for which resident classification is requested. You must have come here with the intent to make California your home as opposed to coming to this state to go to school.

Undocumented students are eligible for AB 540/ SB 68/ SB 1141 as long as the student has attended high school in California for 3 or more years AND prior to the start of the semester term graduated/received a diploma from a California High School, or has attained a High School Equivalency Certificate (a California GED) ...
