Parking on roads You may park in a parking space marked with the international wheelchair symbol. You may park at a parking meter free-of-charge for double the maximum time allowed after which you must pay to park and not exceed the paid-for time.

Please submit your completed application along with the appropriate $20.00 fee. If requesting a set of disability plates at the time of renewal for your vehicle registration, the registration renewal fee is also required. The individual with the disability must sign and date the application.

Handicapped vehicle owners : A towing service may not under any circumstances tow a vehicle with a valid handicap registration plate or disabled permit, unless a police officer authorizes the tow or the vehicle is blocking is clearly marked fire lane or access to another vehicle, the property or a building.

Per Maryland State Law, vehicles displaying valid handicap tags or placards may also park at any metered space for double the time limit of that meter OR a maximum of 4 hours. Payment is not required during that time.

The MVA will accept a letter from the Veterans Administration stating that you have a total (100%) disability and will issue a disability license plate. You can choose any plate, including a veteran plate, and it will display the universal wheelchair symbol.

Call MVA's Customer Service Center at 410-768-7000. Call MVA's Customer Service Center from out-of-state at 1-301-729-4550.

The great thing about disabled parking in Maryland is that there's no expiration date for permanent disabled parking permits (like there are in many other states). However, if your placard is lost or stolen, you do have some options. You should first report the lost/stolen placard or plate to local law enforcement.
