No, unless it expired more than two years ago, in which case you'd have to retake the written and road tests. There are several other situations in which you'll need to retake your driving test.

If your learner's permit expires or if you do not pass your road test after 3 tries, you may obtain a Non-Commercial Learner's Permit application to add/extend/replace/change/correct (DL-31). It is not necessary to have another physical exam unless 3 years have elapsed from the date of your last physical.

The Non-Commercial Learner's Permit Application (DL-180) (PDF) is valid for one year from the date of your physical examination; however, the physical examination date may not be more than six months prior to your 16th birthday.

Your learner's permit will be valid for one year from the issue date printed on your initial learner's permit. During this time, there are certain limitations on your driving privilege if you are under 18 years of age.

You would complete a DL-31 Non-Commercial Learner's Permit application to add the Class A or B to your license. Bring the completed application along with a check or money order in the appropriate amount to any Driver License Center.

Options Relating to the Learner's Permit A Learner's Permit extension is issued to an individual whose Learner's Permit has expired or who has failed his or her skills test three times. An extension is valid for 1 year from the date of issuance.

Learner's permit renewals cannot be completed online through PennDOT's Online Driver Services. To extend a learner's permit, you must complete and return a Form DL-31, "Non-Commercial Learner's Permit Application to Add/Extend/Replace/Change/Correct."
