A first time ignition interlock license is $113.00.

NM law mandates an ignition interlock license and the installation of the device on every vehicle driven by anyone in the State convicted of a DWI. This includes first-time DWI offenders. The NMDOT/TSD is responsible for the licensing and certification of ignition interlock providers.

In order to remove your Ignition Interlock Device (IID) in New Mexico, you will need your Judgment and Sentencing (J&S) paper work, a copy of your ignition interlock license and a copy of your reinstated license. All of this will need to be submitted two weeks prior to your estimated removal date.

If convicted for DWI in New Mexico, you will be required to an ignition interlock device on every vehicle you drive for a minimum period of one year. Additionally, if your license is revoked for violation of the New Mexico Implied Consent Act, you may apply for an interlock license.

The ignition interlock can only be removed upon receipt of a court order with a court seal or vendor removal form signed by a judge or county clerk. To have the ignition interlock requirement removed from your driver license, submit the necessary documentation to the Department by mail, email, or fax.

Steps to Reinstate Your Driver's License After Suspension: Complete a minimum of 6 months of driving with an ignition interlock device. Pay your reinstatement fee (and any other related fees). Apply for a new NM license and take vision and driver's examination tests.
