Register For A Volunteer Shift! Children as young as age six are welcome for our kid-friendly projects. Volunteers 16 years and younger MUST be accompanied by an adult parent/guardian while performing community service hours here at The Houston Food Bank.

There's no upper age limit on volunteering. Some organisations' insurance policies do not cover you if you're under 16 or over a certain age. You cannot work for a profit-making organisation if you're under 14, even if you're not paid.

How old do you need to be to volunteer at the Food Bank? We welcome children ages 8 and older for all Food Sort & Pack shifts. For our Grocery Distribution shifts that involve interacting directly with our neighbors and often working outside around car traffic, volunteers must be at least 12 years old.
