Overpayment of Canada Pension Plan (CPP) or Quebec Pension Plan (QPP) If you were not living in Quebec before you left Canada, go to Line 44800 – CPP overpayment. If you were living in Quebec, any overpayment of CPP or QPP contribution will be refunded or used to reduce your balance on your federal tax return.

If you're under age 65 and earning an income, you must contribute to CPP. It's only after age 65 that you can opt out of making CPP contributions.

You will only continue to get the age-adjusted increase. If you retire early, let's say at 55, and do not make any more contributions then your CPP is being reduced for every month of delay past age 60.

When you receive a signed and completed election form (CPT30) from an eligible employee, you should stop deducting CPP contributions as of the employee's first pay in the month after the month the employee signed and dated Part C of the election form.

If you are 60 to 65 and working, you must continue making contributions. If you are 65 to 70 and working, you can choose whether you want to continue making contributions. If you do choose to continue contributing, you will receive a greater amount of CPP every month until you pass away.
