Pedagogy FAQ
There are six levels of cognitive learning ing to the revised version of Bloom's Taxonomy. Each level is conceptually different. The six levels are remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating.
Revised Bloom's taxonomy refers to the emphasis on two learning domains that make up educational objectives: cognitive (knowledge) and affective (attitude). The revised taxonomy focuses on six levels: remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate and create.
This change was made because the taxonomy is viewed as a hierarchy reflecting increasing complexity of thinking, and creative thinking (creating level) is considered a more complex form of thinking than critical thinking (evaluating level).
1990s Bloom's Taxonomy Modifications were made by a new group of cognitive psychologists. Lorin Anderson, a former student of Bloom's, headed the project. In this revision one of the most significant changes was a conversion of the original nouns at each level to verbs.
The Revised Taxonomy (2001) A group of cognitive psychologists, curriculum theorists and instructional researchers, and testing and assessment specialists published in 2001 a revision of Bloom's Taxonomy with the title A Taxonomy for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment.
The original Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, commonly referred to as Bloom's Taxonomy, was created by Benjamin Bloom in 1956, and later revised in 2001. Bloom categorized and classified the cognitive domain of learning into varying levels ing to complexity and richness.
A revision to Bloom's Taxonomy is being used by some educators. It was developed by a group of cognitive psychologists lead by Lorin Anderson, a former student of Benjamin Bloom. The revised taxonomy has three major changes to the original taxonomy: 1. The order of the top two categories has been swapped.
In the new variant, nouns were replaced by action verbs. Also, the two highest levels of the taxonomy were swapped. The new learning stages are Remember, Understand, Apply, Analyze, Evaluate and Create. The authors also defined cognitive processes associated with these instructional goals.
