If an employee opts out, any contributions that were made will be refunded (by either the employer or Inland Revenue). Any employee, provided they meet eligibility criteria, can join KiwiSaver by contracting directly with a KiwiSaver scheme provider or providing their employer with a KiwiSaver deduction notice.

If you do not get automatically enrolled, you can join by asking your employer, or directly with a KiwiSaver provider. Your employer will give you a KiwiSaver information pack KS3. You can choose the rate for your KiwiSaver deductions. They can be either 3%, 4%, 6%, 8%, or 10%.
