To become an ESE teacher of any grade level (K-12), you must pass the Subject Area Exam for Exceptional Student Education and the General Knowledge Test. During your first year teaching, you will also pass the Professional Education (PEd) Test.
Letters of recommendation are not required as part of the primary application but are a requirement to complete the application.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an accredited college or university. State Certification in Exceptional Student Education or a related field and Educational Leadership, or an equivalent as defined by the Florida Department of Education. Five (5) years of related professional experience.
IMPORTANT: Public Florida universities DO NOT require letters of recommendation. Some private universities and out-of-state schools may. If you determine a school requires a letter of recommendation: Download the recommendation request form here and save it to your computer.
Application Process Letters of Recommendation (Optional) from your college counselor, principal, dean or teacher who has taught you in an academic subject.
We will not ask for letters of recommendation, nor will we request any information stored in your students' lockers. Students will continue to submit the Student Self-Reported Academic Record (SSAR) in lieu of a transcript at time of application.
