The Vanderbilt Scale joins the ASRS, which measures symptoms of adult ADHD. The VADRS has proven to be a reliable tool with strong psychometric properties.

The Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Teacher Rating Scale (VADTRS) is used to help in the diagnostic process of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children between the ages of 6 and 12.

To meet criteria for ADHD there must be at least 2 items of the performance set in which the child scores a 4, or 1 item of the performance set in which the child scores a 5; ie, there must be impairment, not just symptoms, to meet diagnostic criteria.

ADHD cannot be diagnosed accurately just from brief office observations or simply by talking to the person. The person may not always exhibit the symptoms of ADHD during the office visit, and the diagnostician needs to take a thorough history of the individual's life.

The ASRS-v1. 1 is a questionnaire that asks patients about their behaviors and feelings in various situations, such as work, home, and social situations. The questions are designed to help patients describe ADHD symptoms identified in the DSM-IV-TR, a manual used by behavioral health experts.

The parent scale produced sensitivity measure (true positives) of 80% and specificity (true negatives) of 75% when predicting a diagnosis of ADHD.
