“Disabled Veteran Handicap License Plate” means a Colorado issued license plate granting the registered owner persons with disability parking privileges and that also designates the registered owner meets the criteria of being a Handicap Disabled Veteran.

A person with a mobility disability using a valid disability placard, license plate or hangtag issued to them may park in a space marked as reserved for use by those with disabilities (formerly referred to as "handicap parking").

A Colorado disabled parking permit allows its holder to park in any disabled parking space in the state, and also to park in regular metered on-street spaces for free, and in most cases, with no time restriction.

There is NO grace period for Handicap Placards.

Travelers with a disability placard issued in Colorado may use their parking placard in most other US states. Visitors from any other US state may use their parking placard in Colorado. You may park in any spaces that are marked by the Universal Symbol of Access.

A person with a disability may apply for: A remuneration- exempt disability parking placard. If the person with a disability is also a Disabled Veteran as determined by 42-3-213(5), C.R.S., that person may elect to display the Disabled Veteran license plates.

Submit a copy of the original application, along with the new application to your county tax office. If you do not have a copy of your application, you may also submit your expiring placard(s) to your county tax office.
