The PSQ-18 yields separate scores for each of seven different subscales: general satisfaction (2 items), technical quality (4 items), interpersonal manner (2 items), communication (2 items), financial aspects (2 items), time spent with doctor (2 items) and accessibility and convenience (4 items).

How would you rate the overall care provided at our facility? Were our staff empathetic to your needs? Were you satisfied with the doctor you were allocated with? How happy are you with the doctor's treatment?

In particular, the PSQ-18 subscales show acceptable internal consistency reliability, especially in view of their abbreviated length. Furthermore, corresponding PSQ-18 and PSQ-III subscales are substantially correlated with one another. With one exception, these correlations exceed 0.90.

The most important determinant of patient satisfaction lies in how much health care a patient feels that he or she has received.

A total score is found by tallying each item (questions 1, 7, 10, 13, 17, 21, 25, and 29 are positive and are scored ing to the directions accompanying the scale). A PSQ index can be found by subtract- ing 30 from the raw score and dividing the result by 90, yielding a score between 0 and 1. 1.

Patient satisfaction: a subjective measure of whether a patient's expectations about a health encounter were met. Patient satisfaction can be a loaded term. Patients want a great care experience, and the focus of physicians and nurses is to provide great health care, but these two priorities are not always aligned.
