Financial Requirements I-864: Poverty Guidelines To qualify, you need to show income equal to or higher than 125% of the U.S. poverty level for your household. A household includes you and any dependents and relatives living with you along with the immigrant you are petitioning.

Below are the 2022 Poverty Guidelines for the 48 contiguous States. If the only people residing in the household are the sponsor and the intending immigrant relative, then the minimum annual income to qualify is $22,887.

Who can be a Financial Sponsor? A financial sponsor, including a petitioner, must be at least 18 years old and either a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident (LPR). The sponsor must also have a domicile (residence) in the United States.

The minimum required income for most sponsors is 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for their household size and location. For a couple who live in the 48 contiguous states (mainland United States) and have no children, the required minimum annual income is currently $22,887.

A copy of your individual federal income tax return, including W-2s for the most recent tax year, or a statement and/or evidence describing why you were not required to file. Also include a copy of every Form 1099, schedule, and any other evidence of reported income.
