Ohio End Extra $300 Weekly Pandemic Unemployment Payment Early. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced that ODJFS will stop paying out the $300 p/week federally funded unemployment benefit program by the week ending June 26, 2021.

That sum was later reduced to $300 per week in December 2020. In June 2021, DeWine stopped those extra federal unemployment benefits, citing concerns from businesses struggling to fill positions.

However, the DeWine administration does not intend to reinstate the benefits because Ohioans concerned about contracting COVID-19 at work have an alternative: the vaccines.

At issue before the court is a weekly $300 federal payment for Ohioans to offset the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The federal government ended that program Sept. 6, but DeWine stopped the payments June 26, 2021, saying the need for the payments was over.

Congress reduced the benefits to $300 a week as part of the second coronavirus stimulus package passed in December 2020. The benefits altogether expired in early September 2021 – ten weeks after DeWine bowed out of the program.
