Oregon license requirements for a moped Unlike some other states, moped riders in Oregon do need a license in order to operate these vehicles. In this state, you must have a special Class C driver's license to be legal on a moped, and riders must be 16 years of age or older.

To be classified and registered as a moped, the vehicle cannot be capable of speeds of more than 30 mph on level ground, and if the power source is a combustion engine, the engine must be 50 cc or less. Moped operators are not required to have a motorcycle endorsement.

Drivers applying for a CDL must complete all application requirements to be issued a CDL within those six months, or they will need to satisfy any prerequisites (up to and including re-taking/passing knowledge tests and obtaining a new CLP) in order to take and pass the CDL skills test again.

To ride legally in Oregon, you must have a valid driver license and motorcycle endorsement or instruction permit. The penalty for riding without a motorcycle endorsement can be as much as $2,000 plus court costs.

To receive your Oregon learner's permit, you need to be at least 15 years old, pay applicable fees, and get 28 of 35 questions correct on a DMV permit test. The knowledge test is administered on a touch-screen monitor and is available in many languages.

If you are riding a moped or cycle that has an independent power source and can go over 30 mph on level ground, unassisted, you must have a motorcycle endorsement. If you are riding a moped or cycle equipped with a combustion engine power source of more than 50 CCs, you must have a motorcycle endorsement.
