No college is required to accept transfer credits, unless there is an articulation agreement or state policy in place (explained below). Therefore, it's up to you to do the work to make sure the college you plan to attend will accept your credit.

Many students have the opportunity to take college coursework while still in high school. Penn State can typically award credit from regionally accredited institutions as long as an official transcript from the college or university is submitted. Students must receive a C (2.0) or higher in the course.

High school and college transcripts are required to complete a transfer application. Students transferring to University Park must have taken 60 credits (2 years of full-time college coursework) before the time of transfer.

It can take up to six weeks from the date a syllabus is received to the time your Penn State record is updated from a TRN XFRPEN (transfer pending review) to a specific course evaluation.

Course Requirements for Credit Transfer Grade earned must be equivalent to a C (2.0) grade or better. Transcript must list a grade and credit earned. Penn State must have a similar program or course offering. Only courses taken at the undergraduate level will be eligible for transfer consideration.

If a course you completed at a previous institution is not found in the Transferring Credits to Penn State web tool, it will appear as pending on your credit evaluation in LionPATH. You must submit a syllabus for the course to crediteval@psu.edu for review. On average, the review process will take up to four (4) weeks.

Application Evaluation Meeting all of the established criteria is not a guarantee of admission to the program. The application will be reviewed once Penn State receives a complete application. Some students may receive a decision within a few weeks, but the majority of reviews take 6-8 weeks to reach a decision.

Average Transfer GPA ing to the university, the minimum GPA required for consideration is 2.5. Certain programs require a higher figure. However, in our experience, students with a 3.3 GPA or better will fare best in a competitive PSU transfer admissions process.
