For initial account setup for Apportioned Registration under Section 305, you will need to provide evidence of: Ownership of each vehicle to be registered under the account. Proof of Payment of Heavy Vehicle Use Tax, if applicable. UCR Receipt, if applicable. Valid financial responsibility (liability insurance)

(1) Cab card--The apportioned vehicle registration receipt that contains, but is not limited to, the vehicle description and the registered weight at which the vehicle may operate in each jurisdiction. (2) Department--The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

The state of Texas requires all personal car and light truck owners to pay an annual $50.75 state vehicle registration fee. For commercial vehicles, the registration fee is based on the weight of the vehicle, and these fees range from $54 to more than $840.

Renewals and/or supplemental applications can be processed online, through a Regional Service Center or mailed to Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, Motor Carrier Division – IRP Renewal, P.O. Box 26440, Austin, TX 78755-0440.

A vehicle may be operated up to five working days after the registration expires without penalty. After those five days, you can receive a citation of up to $200.

The signed negotiable title and completed Application for Texas Title and/or Registration (Form 130-U), must be provided to the county tax office to title the vehicle. The title application must be accompanied by Affidavit of Motor Vehicle Gift Transfer (Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Form 14-317).

Registration of renewal credentials; base plate and cab card may be carried and displayed in the unit until the new registration year begins. You may complete your renewal online at https:// IRP.TxDMV.gov or return all forms to the address shown below for processing.
