Can I take more than 17 credits at UVA?

Students who wish to request permission to enroll in more than 17 credit hours in a semester should complete a Credit Hour Overload Request. Students may request permission to enroll in up to 21 credit hours; enrollment in more than 21 credit hours in a semester is not permitted.

Academically successful undergraduate students who wish to take more than 18 credits can request to take over that limit by submitting a credit overload request to their academic dean's office.

Students who wish to request permission to enroll in more than 17 credit hours in a semester should complete a Credit Hour Overload Request. Students may request permission to enroll in up to 21 credit hours; enrollment in more than 21 credit hours in a semester is not permitted.

College students are restricted to 15 credit hours during initial registration. This limit increases to 17 at the beginning of the semester. Please see the University Registrar's website for the specific dates. For a College student to do more than 17 hours, they need to do an overload form through the College.
