How do we apply for an exemption? To apply for franchise and sales tax exemptions, complete and submit Form AP-204, Texas Application for Exemption – Federal and All Others (PDF) to the Comptroller's office. Include a copy of the IRS-issued exemption determination letter with any addenda.

The R-1085 form can be downloaded and submitted to the Department of Revenue by fax: (225) 237-6765 or by mail to: Louisiana Department of Revenue, Revenue Processing Center, P.O. Box 4998, Baton Rouge, La. 70821-4998.

To claim a tax exemption on qualifying items, you must apply for an agricultural and timber registration number (Ag/Timber Number) from the Comptroller. You must include the Ag/Timber Number on the agricultural exemption certificate (PDF) or the timber exemption certificate (PDF) when buying qualifying items.

The sales tax exemption covers the first $50,000 of the sales price for the items listed below. Farmers must be certified by LDR and a copy of the approved R-1085 must be attached to this exemption certificate to certify the purchaser's exempt status.

Bring along proof of control of the land, which can be a deed, a lease or rental agreement, or other land tenure documents. The FSA staff will locate your farm parcel through the county GIS system, check to see if it already has a number, and if not – issue you a number. Farm numbers are issued for free.

The completed renewal application and required documentation may be submitted by mail to: Louisiana Department of Revenue, Revenue Processing Center, P.O. Box 4998, Baton Rouge, LA 70821-4998, by email: commercial.farmer@la.gov or by fax: (225) 237- 6765.
